People of the coastal region: Ecuador's coast is home to communities like the Tsachilas, Afro-Ecuadorians, Montubios, and others.

Tsáchilas: The Tsáchilas community is one of the most important communities on the Ecuadorian coast. They are renowned for their practice of painting hair with food coloring made from the seeds of an Achiote tree called Anatora. They are also the only indigenous community in Ecuador that still speaks Sapiqui, the ancient language of the now-extinct Kitus-Caras culture that inhabited the Pichincha region during the 13th and 14th centuries BCE.
